Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on October 28, 1967 in Atlanta. She is the fourth Roberts generation that has lived in Atlanta from her farmer great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts. She inherited her father's interest in theatre from an early time. He was a part of at the Emory University campus in 1952 and in other productions that were staged around Atlanta. In 1953, he joined the Air Force. While stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi, he appeared in a show with Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their son, Eric Anthony, was born in the year 1956. In 1957 the couple left the military and Walter was enrolled in Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter began his work at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter along with Betty Lou started production in 1964 on the children's local Saturday morning show on television called Bum Bum and His Buddies that they self-funded. In 1964 Walter and Betty Lou established The Actors and Writers Workshop. It ran for six years. Lelisa Billingsley, also known as Lisa, was born in the year 1965. Julia Billingsley followed in 1967.
