Adams was raised in Italy as her father worked in the U.S. military and she was raised living in Castle Rock Colorado as one of seven children. At the end of the 1990s, she began performing professionally and dancing with Boulder's Dinner Theatre and Country Dinner Playhouse. Later she was in Minnesota, at a local theatre she was cast as a character in an unrealized documentary film about beauty pageants titled Drop Dead Gorgeous. Her screen debut was a huge success where she played an annoying but pleasant contestant, Janet relocated into Los Angeles where she began an acting career professionally. Her role as Norma was featured in a few popular movies over time, including Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho which was released in 1960 as well as Living It Up, a Martin and Lewis film released in 1954.
