April Lockhart
April Lockhart, born in 1995 on the 4th day of July, started taking guitar and piano lessons at age seven. The passion for writing songs was ignited. When she was 12 years old, April composed her first single Different. The singer spent much of her time when she was 14 composing songs and experimenting with music. After a while, she began to go on trips with her dad and to write songs either in NY and LA. April began including other topics in her book Take My Hand to help her friends who were dealing with peer pressure, disabilities or even suicidal thoughts. Lockhart works in partnerships at popular cosmetics brand Ilia and also is a lifestyle blogger with her own growing following. She was born without her left hand and that is part of who she is--but this isn't the whole truth. The account on Instagram of Lockhart doesn't deny the fact that she has a disability. It also doesn't insist on it. The point? It's important to keep in mind that everyone has many faces, our identities are varied and we're beyond our body. Lockhart has stated on video that she does not want to be defined solely by her physical disability. She doesn't wish to become a disability advocate who only talks about disability. There are a lot of aspects to Lockhart. It doesn't affect my everyday life. Everything is normal and I've learned how to adjust. It's also part of me so I think it's important to talk about. Lockhart's self-acceptance journey is one that will last a lifetime, but she has been a source of inspiration in this regard. Yet, she confesses to going through periods that made her feel uncomfortable about her appearance and wearing clothing that showed her arms. Nowadays, she can wear whatever she likes. She also posts her photos on social media. One of the keys to self-love for her is that it's not an end place to go. However, that is common for anyone with doubts. It is important to have people that know and can relate to your situation. They'll be the ones who ask what you worry about?
