Jennifer Garner, born April 17, 1972, in Houston, Texas, was raised in Charleston West Virginia. The father of Jennifer Garner, William John Garner, was a chemical engineer at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann, her mother taught at a nearby college. In order to follow in the footsteps of her father, she completed a chemical engineering degree. In order to follow her dream of becoming an actor, she relocated into New York to try her chance in the movie industry. She was employed at a restaurant and was a part of Broadway productions. She was in a minor part in the film "Felicity" (where the show was where she first encountered Scott Foley). Garner was a star in"the romantic comedy "13 Going on 30" where she played an teen trapped inside a 30 year-old's body. Garner chose Gary Winick, who directed the film. Both Winick and Garner were able to continue to collaborate in search of other projects following the death of Winick. Garner was named an artist ambassador in 2011 by Save the Children U.S.A. This role involves encouraging nutrition and literacy across America in addition to early childhood education. Garner was a member on the organization's board since 2014, serves as an advocate for early learning.
