Laura Linney, best known for portraying strong, but fragile characters, is one of the most celebrated American actors of today. Born to a renowned playwright's father but raised by a single mother who worked in the field of nursing, she became interested in theatre while having summers spent with her father and eventually pursuing a degree in acting initially in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. When she graduated at Brown University, she made making her Broadway debut soon afterward. In the space of two years from that, her first film was released and the next year she made her television debut. Over the past few years she has appeared in a variety of films, television productions as well as stage productions. She has been nominated for three Oscar Awards, five Tony Awards, and four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and has won numerous awards throughout her time on the stage. However, in spite of all the awards she has received acting has been her first love and she is still appearing on screen and on stage.
